Emotional intelligence

At SEK Santa Isabel International School we approach Emotional Education through the RULER methodology. RULER is recognised by the Collaborative to Advance Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) as a SEL programme for its scientific evidence for social and emotional learning. Marc Brackett, the principal developer of this methodology, is the director of the Yale University Center for Emotional Intelligence.

The aim of the school is that by the end of the course, all the teaching staff will have received the complete training and that families will be able to use this tool at home as well.

Emotions are part of our lives from birth and play an important role in the creation of personality, learning and overall development. That is why it is so important to address emotional competences during all stages of education.

Emotional education is present in all areas of the school, it is not, nor can it be, just another subject, as emotions can be felt and expressed at any time of the day. The teaching profession is mostly emotional; knowing and managing emotions is essential to create a good atmosphere in the classroom. Therefore, it is important to understand that all emotions are good, but we must know how to recognise them in order to be able to manage them and act accordingly.
